The MAD INDUSTRY :creative group debuts their new vinyl design for Coulter Motorsports Driver, Matt Lofton.

Matt Lofton Overcomes Qualifying Spin to Net Sixth Place Finish at Kansas

KANSAS CITY, KS (10/8/11) – Partaking in the historic first race "under the lights" at Kansas Speedway, Coulter Motorsports driver Matt Lofton was determined to wheel his way to the front, after a qualifying spin forced him to start in the rear. Lofton, piloting his No. 16 Strutmasters.com Chevrolet Impala SS, knew the daunting challenge he faced as the green flag fell over the Kansas Lottery 98.9, but was undeterred, showing the determination of a champion throughout the race.

ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards started the race weekend with a technical inspection only day on Thursday, allowing the teams much needed time Friday, for practice. With Friday's lone practice session, Lofton and crew chief Jon Wolfe, worked on long race runs, knowing the tracks dynamics would change with the impending night race. By practices end, Lofton posted the 10th fastest time, at 32.239 seconds at 167.499 MPH. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell followed the early AM practice session, where Lofton would go out 23rd of the 41 cars present. While coming to the white flag off turn four, Lofton's car became extremely loose, sending him sideways down the banking. Fearing damaging his car, Lofton brought his car to pit road, forcing him to post the 36th fastest time at 53.636 seconds at 100.679 MPH.

With race time bearing down, Lofton and crew spent time visiting with Coulter Motorsports honorary crew members, Warner Music Group rock band Seasons After. The band, making their first major stock car race appearance, spent the afternoon with the team, visiting with fans and rocking out to their acclaimed CD with Lofton.

ARCA officials waved the green flag, for the first ever night race at Kansas Speedway, shortly before 8:00 p.m. CT, to start the Kansas Lottery 98.9.

Lofton, knowing the task at hand, immediately took advantage of green flag racing conditions, passing 14 cars, placing him 22nd as the field completed lap one. His fiery pace wouldn't wan, as he paced himself into 15th by lap 14, when he radioed to Wolfe that his car was a "little too free off right now."

Yellow waved around the 1.5-mile track for the first time on lap 22, as Lofton sat in 15th. His loose condition stayed constant at a "five loose on exit, all around." Wolfe brought the No. 16 Strutmasters.com Chevrolet to pit road for some much needed attention by the Coulter Motorsports crew. Making fast work of a four tire, fuel and air pressure adjustment stop, Lofton rejoined the field in 12th for the restart on lap 28.

Continuing his hard charge to the front, Lofton meticulously timed his passes around the Kansas City, KS speedway, giving him a top advantage. By the halfway point on lap 50, he had worked his way into tenth. As caution fell for the third time of the evening on lap 51, Lofton once again reported his car as a "five loose, still on exit." Wolfe brought Lofton to pit road, for four Hoosier tires, Sunoco fuel and a wedge adjustment. Green would wave again on lap 56, with Lofton posted in the ninth position.

Setting forth on a charge through the top-ten, Lofton used the day's final caution period on lap 87, while in fifth, to tell the crew his "car is amazing, especially good once I can get on the top side." The green flag flew for the final time on lap 94, with Lofton heading for the leaders bumpers, before engaging in a battle with the eventual race winner, the only car to pass Lofton and his No. 16 Strutmasters.com Chevrolet all evening. Lofton would cross the finish line in the Kansas Lottery 98.9 on lap 99, in the sixth position.

"I can't begin to say enough about this Coulter Motorsports crew, and the car they provided me this weekend," exclaimed Lofton. "We really hit on something at practices end yesterday (Friday) and if it wasn't for the spin in qualifying, we would have started up front. The guys stood behind me and really hustled, and this rocket ship of a car they gave me, was great all night."

Coulter Motorsports and Matt Lofton return to racing action Saturday, October 29th at Martinsville Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Lofton will be piloting the No. 97 Strutmasters.com Toyota Tundra in the Kroger 200, live on SPEED at 2:00 p.m. ET.
